Key Responsibilities · Field Biologist needed on an on-call basis. On-call position could be filled at senior, mid and junior level experience.
o Wetlands Delineator (must have certification/experience with wetland delineations in Texas)
o Botanist (preferably with rare plant experience and/or wetland delineation experience)
o Aquatic Vegetation (management, invasive species, identification experience)
· Projects are generally 1 to 6 days in length in Texas (and possibly neighboring states). Projects could be located anywhere, so travel is expected. Travel may involve working in remote areas.
· Depending on the position, there will be some field work and some office work. Field work includes collecting data for projects dependent on the project scope and expertise of position.
· Office work involves preparing reports, maps and charts and performing routine calculations. Office work will generally be in a Texas office (Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas or El Paso).
· Performs field surveys and uses GPS, compass, quad maps and aerial photos.
· Interprets data. With experience, may write complete reports.
· Prepares field reports, internal correspondence, sections of formal reports.
· With experience, may supervise subcontractors and/or company employees.
· Follows company safety standards, site safety standards, and provides all required permitting.
· Contacts vendors; researches literature and regulatory requirements.
Basic/Required Qualifications · BS, MS, or PhD in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science or related scientific discipline or technical field (depending on type of position)
· 2+ years of related experience for junior positions. 15+ years of related experience for senior positions.
· Texas ecology, fauna and/or flora knowledge and experience required.
· Ornithologists must have experience with listed bird species in Texas.
· Wetland biologists must have experience with wetland delineation in Texas.
· Willingness to work on an as-needed basis and travel.
· Skilled at basic or standard field procedures and techniques.
· Good to excellent oral and written communication skills.
· Demonstrated experience working successfully in a team environment.
· Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required.
· Software Knowledge: Microsoft WORD, EXCEL and OUTLOOK knowledge and experience.
· Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy.
Preferred Qualifications · Federal and Texas municipality project experience.
· NEPA knowledge and experience.
· Ecological experience in New Mexico, Oklahoma and/or Louisiana.
· Experience with stream or prairie restoration.
· Software Knowledge: Microsoft PUBLISHER, POWERPOINT, ArcGIS.
Physical Demands · Will be working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
· Ability to hike as required. Terrain may be steep at times.
