Job Title: Computer Operations 2

Role Description:
Day to Day Work

Under limited supervision provides 7x24 smart hands in the Mission Critical Data Center Raised Floor environment. Escorts third party vendors to equipment, validates and performs ITSM Service Requests, Change Requests, and Incidents. of ITSM7 Atrium CMDB, and Bar Code Scanning equipment, confirms Locations, Identifies and evaluates status of computing devices, conducts physical inventory and documents all physical connections on computing devices.

Resolves ITSM7 Incidents to recall tape, mount and restore systems. Classifies, catalogs, and maintains library of computer tapes. Classifies reels and cartridges of magnetic computer tape according to content, purpose, principal user, date generated or other criteria. Assigns identification number, following standard systems. Prepares catalogue of tapes classified, using logbook and computer. Stores tapes according to classification and identification number. Issues tapes and maintains charge-out records. Inspects returned tapes and notifies supervisor when tapes are worn or damaged. Removes obsolete tapes from library, following data retention requirements.

Maintains Rackwise Data Base, performs physical inspections of data center looking for system alarms, warning lights, non-standard installations.

Key Responsibilities

Under limited supervision, operation and monitoring of the control console of a mainframe or mini computer for the processing of data and preparation of business/scientific reports, studies and analysis. Following established procedures performs the more routine and standard operations such as loading input and output materials including tapes, cards, discs, forms, etc. Starts and monitors standard runs where documentation is readily available; observes control panels for malfunctions, errors or operator messages and responds accordingly. Refers complex problems to Tier 2 / Tier 3 support as necessary.

Technical and Behavioral Skills

High School diploma or GED required

College degree preferred

A+ Certification in basic Computer Hardware

Proficient in ITSM7 and Rackwise Software

Excellent verbal communication skills required

2+ years Data Center Smart Hands, Media Services or computer operations support experience required

Basic knowledge of data processing fundamentals and equipment operation required

Ability to work all shifts in 7x24 Support Environment.
