This position involves basic labor skills and the use of equipment and tools of a physically demanding nature in all weather conditions. Assignments involve the maintenance, repair and general upkeep or parks, grounds and buildings including mowing, trimming, litter removal, planting, pruning, weeding, sweeping, digging, raking, watering, equipment repair, janitorial work, special tasks, and lifting and carrying materials. Incumbent usually functions under the crew supervisors. Work is reviewed by observation or inspection.
Previous experience in work which provides a familiarity with grounds maintenance, landscaping or similar work.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to learn and perform assignments. Able to work with other people in an agreeable manner. Good health with strength and endurance are necessary to perform work. Must display initiative and dependability. Any combination of training and experience substantially equivalent to a completion of eighth grade and some experience in work which provides a familiarity with grounds maintenance, landscaping, or similar work required. Previous safe use of hand and small power tools and grounds maintenance equipment preferred. Possession of a valid Maryland motor vehicle operator's license is required.
