Performs manual labor using hand tools in the repair and maintenance of roads and bridges including clearing of rights-of-way, ditch cleaning, repairing shoulders, pothole patching, driveway installation, building catch basins, pouring concrete for curbs, sidewalks, driveways and raised median, setting forms, laying sideline/cross line pipe and making base repairs. Trains in the safe operation and maintenance of heavy motorized equipment used in various phases of roadway maintenance including a tractor mounted sweeper broom in cleanup operations. Clears trees and branches and picks up litter, debris, and dead animals from roadway and right-of-way. Flags and directs traffic in work zones to protect the workers, the public, and equipment. Operates and maintains electric/gas powered tools used in various phases of roadway maintenance. Assists in emergency operations when crew is in an “On Call” status after hours, weekends, and holidays for all road emergencies including inclement weather, snow and ice, or hazardous road conditions and accidents.
Minimum and Additional Requirements:
A 10th grade education; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations. A valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). (Note): This position requires a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License. However, applicants without a Class A Commercial Driver’s License will be considered if no qualified applicants with a Class A Commercial Driver’s License are available. A Class A Commercial Driver’s License must be attained within six (6 months) of placement in the position.
