The Clinical Research Assistant for the Hospital for Special Surgery performs data collection/entry and participates in data analysis for studies within the Quality Research Center (QRC). Studies will include investigating quality research interests through the exploration of existing hospital administrative data and clinical data housed in paper and computer repositories. Studies will use epidemiological case-control prospective and retrospective study designs, as well as retrospective and prospective cohort study designs. Some studies will require additional data collection through surveys and observation.
The clinical research studies assistant is part of a research team, compliant with all regulatory, institutional and departmental requirements.
Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field
Proficient use of computers and software
Experience with research data management software (e.g. REDCap) preferred
Familiar with basic computer programming
Previous experience in a research environment preferred but not essential
Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and etc.
Good telephone and interpersonal skills
Detail oriented, organized and efficient
A qualified candidate has the ability to communicate in an effective manner with management, clinical staff, external sponsors and patients at HSS. He or she will be flexible, as the job description may evolve as studies progress and the center matures. He or she will also be able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-pace and demanding environment. The clinical research studies assistant will have access to the medical records of patients; he or she should appreciate this privilege and maintain strict confidentiality with all patient medical data.
The applicant must be available on site at the hospital during patient visits.
