Under minimal supervision, at the direction of supervisory staff, including the foreman or assistant foreman, perform all functions in both the press and mail rooms.

The pressroom portion of the position involves the preparation, layout, operation, and maintenance of printing presses and related equipment. Duties include setting and maintaining a balance of ink and water, registration of printing, operating ABB ink setting controls, and operating press folders, as well as handling, preparing, and loading paper on the press, preparation of pasters, preparing the reelroom report, and related duties. Is responsible for quality control during a press run, and the cleanup and maintenance of printing units and folders. During a press run, must constantly check reproduction to ensure that reproduction is clear, registered, and that the ink is properly set within a specified density range.

The Mailroom portion of the position involves processing newspapers for distribution, which may include operating addressing, stacking, inserting, and bundle processing equipment. May also be responsible for correctly dispatching the papers and helping out in the pressroom during downtime.

It is the responsibility of each Journeyman/Woman-Press to minimize white waste, printed waste, and press downtime attributed to paster breaks, running breaks, and other mechanical or operational failures. Must work together as a team to produce consistent quality of reproduction, to meet dispatch schedules, and to maintain an efficient and cost effective operation. Also responsible for assisting with training for Trainees and press/mail assistants.

Additional duties may be assigned from time to time such as working in the plateroom and performing transportation related work as needed. Position requires standing, lifting, bending, and physical exertion throughout shift.

Strong press mechanical and preventative maintenance background preferred.
Must be PC proficient
Newspaper mailroom or pressroom experience desired but not required.
Experience in operating a double-width offset press, running high quality deadline process color preferred
