The Storage Administrator role is to operate and performance-tune storage platforms across the organization to ensure high levels of data quality, availability, and security. This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure storage provisioning, efficiency, and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.

Fully functioning, journey-level professional in most aspects of enterprise storage. Incumbent's ability encompasses broad knowledge required within the storage area. Typically implements designs or approaches developed by others. Is able to function independently and produce results that meet standards of quality, timeliness and acceptability with minimal supervision and general direction. Remains informed on storage laws, trends, and issues, including current and emerging technologies and best practices; advise, counsel, and educate executive and management teams on their relative importance. Manages and/or provides guidance to junior members of the team.

This position will work with confidential and proprietary information that requires a signed IT Employee Invention and Confidentiality Agreement upon hire.

Job Essentials

  • Participates in and supports capacity planning and development of long-term strategic goals for enterprise storage in conjunction with data owners and department managers.
  • Works with systems and database administrators to implement storage architectures that utilize industry best practices.
  • Consults with customers to assist with storage requirements and implementation decisions. Evaluates storage alternatives or new technology and recommends solutions for small to medium projects. Assists in evaluations for large, more complex projects.
  • Installs and configures storage devices and corresponding software.
  • Assists with and assumes project assignment responsibilities, plan creation and management.
  • Implements redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of storage appliances and stored data assets.
  • Establishes appropriate end-user access control levels for stored data.
  • Performs tasks necessary to fulfill service level agreements with end-users regarding storage allocations, limitations, security, and availability.
  • Performs and tests backups and restores to ensure that enterprise data is effectively protected.
  • Follows change control, incident response, and testing processes for modifications to storage appliances and software.
  • Anticipates, mitigates, identifies, responds to, and resolves issues with storage devices, storage access, and data retrieval.
  • Researches and makes recommendations on storage products, services, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
  • Monitors, analyzes, and predict trends for storage equipment performance, space allocation, and data growth to recommend enhancements to the IT storage team.
  • Develops routines for end-users to facilitate storage best practices, including desktop storage administration.
  • Ensures that information storage measures and equipment adhere to all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Performs storage server/database transactions and security audits leading to identification and mitigation of security threats to enterprise data. Creates required reports in response to business user needs. Develops, documents, and maintains operational processes and tasks.

    Minimum Requirements
    • Bachelor’s degree in an information systems field OR four or more years of technical experience. Intermountain Healthcare verifies both degree attainment and educational institution accreditation following an offer of employment.
    • Three or more years of storage administration experience
    • Technical knowledge of storage, backup and recovery
    • Technical knowledge of current system hardware, protocols and standards
    • Analytical and problem-solving abilities
    • Hands-on troubleshooting experience
    • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
    • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
    • Available to work on-call in a 24/7 environment. On-call schedule is Tuesday to Tuesday every six weeks.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Six or more years of storage administration experience
    • Experience in a healthcare environment
    • ITIL certification
