Job Description

Rackspace is seeking a dedicated and ambitious Linux Administrator to provide Fanatical Support' to customers with both dedicated and cloud configurations in our SMB Hybrid segment.

This position is for 1st shift (8:00AM - 5:00PM) in Austin, TX


- Provide outstanding service for customers with dedicated and cloud configurations via phone calls and ticketing systems
- Mentor and collaborate with other SysAdmins on the team
- Troubleshoot, configure, and administrate all components of the LAMP stack

Must Haves

- Familiarity with Red Hat and LAMP software
- Excellent problem solving and trouble shooting skills
- Exemplary written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to adapt to change and a willingness to learn about new products, technologies, and internal systems
- Positive 'can do' attitude and ability to own issues to completion

Nice to Haves

- Hosting Experience
- RHCT, RHCSA, RHCE, RHCA certifications
- Programming experience (i.e. BASH, Python, Ruby, PHP, etc.)
- Baccalaureate degree in Computer Science or related field (i.e. Information Science, Engineering, etc.)
- Knowledge of other Linux distributions (i.e. Ubuntu, Suse, Gentoo, etc.)

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will have the following:

- Requires approximately 1 - 2 years experience working in a computer technical field
- Must have previous Linux principles experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent work experience preferred
- RHCT Preferred
- Able to set up Cron jobs
- Ability to add basic route to system
- Knowledge of common text editor and able to troubleshoot and configure standard services, Web/mail/DNS
- Understanding of DNS principles, understand zone files, and be ability to add/change DNS entries
- Good knowledge of PHP configuration and My SQL foundation including add/remove DB, grant statements, show slave status, log files
- Basic knowledge of Rackspace storage solutions
- Understands performance monitors and their output using tools such as SAR and Nimbus
- Understand zone files, advanced RPM usage
- Basic ability to read and interpret Firewall and Load Balancer configurations
- Basic troubleshooting of clusters
- Proficient knowledge of CLI
- Proficient with network file systems, NFS/SAMBA
