The Role:
In this role, you will work as a member of the Database Operations team to design, deploy, and maintain the SQL Server database environments while planning for the next generation of scalable & high performance systems. You will be responsible for all aspects of the Database Administration, and provide Guru-level leadership and expertise in the performance, scalability, high-availability, and capacity planning of the SurveyMonkey database infrastructure. You will work closely with developers, product managers, BI teams and other stakeholders on projects from idea to implementation. This is a Hands-On role.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for design, deployment, maintenance and tuning of mission-critical SQL database infrastructure
Maintain and monitor all systems responding to issues proactively when possible, and expediently when not
Design, test, and implement new hardware solutions for database systems
Extensive authoring and optimization of T-SQL
Management of database elements including schemas, tables, views, indexes, stored procedures, security and triggers
Responsibility for forecasting, capacity planning, performance analysis, inefficiency spotting (both in queries and stored procedures), and troubleshooting
Management of database instance configuration, replication, clustering, mirroring, fail-over and migration
Collaboration with dev team on system builds, query tuning, feature implementation, and release management
Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotations in support of critical production systems
Qualifications:
4+ years of extensive experience in building and managing production Microsoft SQL Server databases in a high-volume, explosive-growth, public-facing environment
Ability and desire to succeed in a dynamic production environment where priorities change based on evolving business needs
Expert-level experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2, experience with SQL Server 2012 a plus
Proven experience using BIDs, SSIS or other ETL solutions building and supporting end to end solutions for data warehousing and reporting.
SSRS administration and configuration experience, SharePoint knowledge a plus
Solid knowledge of Windows Server 2008 R2/2008/2003 platforms including relevant performance tuning aspects for database systems. Working knowledge of Linux (RedHat or Debian).
Excellent problem solving ability with a focus on root-cause analysis and swift resolution
Strong T-SQL programming skills with a proven record of writing efficient SQL
Hands-on, verifiable experience with database backup and recovery in a “high-stakes” production environment
Strong knowledge of storage configuration and optimization for database systems
Experience with database security and both Windows & UNIX security concepts
Excellent documentation and knowledge management skills
Strong knowledge of development cycles and software engineering best practices
Proven education background or relevant industry experience and certification
Must have excellent communication skills, must work well with other engineers of all skill-levels, and interface easily with “the Suits” to translate business requirements into database reality
