Senior level candidate's Sys Admin responsibilities - I can best answer this by saying we are trying to begin creating 'generalist' positions rather than ones that are soloed. For example, today we have a Data Center team, a Storage & Backup team, a Windows team, a UNIX team, and a telecom/telephony team. They each have very specific skillsets and don't typically have expertise in the other infrastructure areas. As we move into the world of converged networking and cloud technology the lines between these teams begin to blur. We will still need our subject matter experts but we will also need people with cross-functional (or generalist) skillsets. So, in answer to your question - the person does not need to specifically have telecom/telephony experience. Instead, we would like them to have experience in at least two of the infrastructure related areas mentioned above. In the case of this position, we want one of the skillsets to be that of a Senior DC admin. The candidate's additional infrastructure skillset(s) can come from any of the other infrastructure areas. Since this will be the first generalist role we are creating we are not limited to any one additional specific area of expertise.
