Assists all students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career and personal/social skills, goals, and plans. Accurately and appropriately interprets and utilizes student data. Collaborates with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with educational, career, and life planning. Provides individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs. Implements an effective referral and follow-up process as needed. Accurately and appropriately uses assessment procedures for determining and structuring individual and group counseling services. Provides leadership and collaborates with other educators in the school-wide integration of the State Guidance curriculum standards for student development. Implements developmentally appropriate and prevention-oriented group activities to meet student needs and school goals. Monitors student academic performance, behavior, attendance and facilitates appropriate interventions. Conducts an annual program audit to review extent of program implementation and effectiveness.
Minimum and Additional Requirements:
Requires a Master’s Degree and Certification by the SC Department of Education in Guidance-Elementary or Secondary or Associate Guidance-Secondary or Secondary Advanced; and two (2) years’ experience teaching or counseling with individuals with disabilities. Must have knowledge of the communication and cultural issues related to serving sensory impaired individuals; knowledge and skills in the use of various counseling methods and techniques; and strong ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with sensory impaired individuals, their families and other service providers. Minimum Entry Skill Level SCPI: Intermediate; Goal Skill Level SCPI: Advanced.
