Ubuntu Africa (UBA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of HIV positive children and teens in underserved communities in South Africa by establishing comprehensive community-based programs that provide lifesaving health and support services. UBA is also committed to fostering an empowered attitude towards HIV/AIDS among young people worldwide and engaging them to participate in improving conditions for people affected by global health challenges. ABOUT THE POSITION: This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, solution-oriented individual to lead and implement the fundraising strategy for a fast growing, high-impact nonprofit organization. The Director of Development will manage and implement the organization's fundraising strategy in partnership with the Executive Director, whose time is split between the US and the ground operations in South Africa. The Director can be based in either New York City or Westchester, but must be happy with travel to/from each location. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Develop and oversee UBA's fundraising planning and implementation, generating a revenue base that ensures the ongoing financial sustainability of the organization.
Manage and execute major fundraising events including but not limited to UBA's annual June gala, December benefit and World AIDS Day campaign.
Ensure a diverse fundraising base through strategic solicitation and relationship development with individual donors, corporations and foundations.
Prospect, write and develop grant proposals and reports.
Oversee donor and grant records through the organization's database maintaining accuracy, donor confidentiality and quality controls.
Manage a team of two Ubuntu Africa Fellows toward fundraising and cultivation goals.
Develop the strategy and execute plan to grow the organization's national Chapter Program for young supporters.
Board of Directors Relations
Work with Board of Directors, Development Committee and Executive Director to develop strategies to meet aggressive fundraising targets.
Participate in Board meetings as requested by the Executive Director and report fundraising results on a quarterly basis.
Communications and Marketing
Develop and implement UBA marketing and PR plan, including leveraging key relationships, media placements and organized outreach to enhance the organization's profile within various sectors.
Create and maintain UBA's marketing materials including annual report, fact sheet, flyers, and introductory presentation.
Produce specialized correspondence, prepare letters of acknowledgement, and schedule in-person visits.
4-6 years of fundraising experience
Demonstrated experience developing and managing an organizational fundraising strategy.
A track record of success generating revenue and raising funds on behalf of an organization, meeting or exceeding goals.
Exceptional persuasive communications skills, both written and verbal.
Excellent event planning skills and experience.
Interest, enthusiasm and affinity for Ubuntu Africa's mission.
Comfort working independently and with diverse global team.
Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to cultivate and nurture relationships with diverse stakeholders.
Familiarity with donor management databases.
Sense of humor, attention to detail, flexibility and a "no job is too big or too small" attitude.
