POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Clinical Nurse Manager and directly supervised by the Registered Professional Nurse.

In collaboration with the care team and under the direction of the RN, provides data for basic patient care needs and performs technical tasks as delegated by the care team as the patient care needs dictate.

Assists in data collection, provides input into the plan of care/CareProfile, reinforces teaching and documents care delivered.

Performs secondary role responsibilities to assist other members of the care team:

1) Basic data collection; 2) Observes IV; 3) Uncomplicated decubitus care: 4) Enemas/fecal impactions: 5) Feeding tubes: monitor placement, irrigate, add tube feedings (unmedicated).

MINIMUM EDUCATION:
1.

Certificate of completion in a certified Nursing Assistant program or enrolled in a ADN or BSN program with documented completion of one year of medical/ surgical nursing required.

basic cardiac monitoring course by end of orientation.

PREFERRED EDUCATION:
Completion of formal related training program(s).

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
One year direct nursing care experience (or compatible training).

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Experience in a hospital setting as a CNA, Patient Care Technician or Monitor Technician.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
CNA or equivalent. Current American Heart Association HealthCare Provider BLS CPR or approved equivalent (must include infant through adult, one and two-man rescuer, use of AED, and choking with hands-on CPR skills return demonstration, and must be pre-approved by Org Dev/Human Resources) completed prior to employment.

UNIT SPECIFIC SKILLS:
Within six months of employment CNA II checklist.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Work requires the interpersonal skills necessary to comfort patients, family members and/or significant others.

Possesses the skills to communicate effectively and concisely with the care team; and to instruct patients, to support the goals and mission of the Sisters of The Third Order and patient-focused care work ethic and to reinforce select education to patients, family members and/or significant other(s). Demonstrates self-motivation and commitment to Patient Focused Care.
