Participate in the engineering effort of major SBG projects and contribute to the development of new technologies. Write code to support the delivery of new features and functionality as well as improve existing features and functionality.
Essential Job Functions:
Subject matter expert and technical lead and advisor in one or more system that SBG supports
Lead efforts to engineer new code, and work with/enhance an existing code base in conjunction with other Principal engineers and team members.
Lead efforts to architect, design and implement new functionality.
Work with UX team and other stakeholders throughout company to design, architect and implement functionality from beginning to end.
Guide the efforts of junior members in the implementation of features and ensure best practices are followed.
Provide guidance to QA for creating test cases for designed software.
Work with the operations team to ensure the environmental requirements of the deployed application are met and that applications are scalable.
Actively contribute to the ongoing software design and agile development process of the group.
Develop understanding of technical innovations both within and outside of the industry. Make timely recommendations on their applicability to projects.
Work with engineers in other departments to create system-wide solutions.
Some specialist domains in SBG:
UI development with AJAX, Flash and similar technologies for web and mobile web;
J2EE Web Services design and development of web service based platforms and infrastructure;
Django-based web development for public facing internet sites
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
Min 7 years web development experience that demonstrates an understanding and usage of solid-coding techniques, documentation, and managing the overall technical integrity of a code-base including portability, extensibility, and testability
Extensive project experience as a technical lead in development of rich interactive web interfaces with a corresponding knowledge of one of the major Ajax libraries (e.g. JQuery, Prototype, etc)
Demonstrable project experience with at least one major internet facing project where the candidate has served as the team lead or architect
Web application development experience: 7 years (includes HTML, CSS)
Python experience: 2 years
Jquery or another major Ajax library: 1 year
Relational database experience: 4 years
Action Script 3/Flex experience: 4 years
Linux/Unix experience: 7 years
SCM experience: 7 years (CVS or SVN or similiar)
Work experience in a team that practices some form of agile software development
Passion for technology and creating innovative state of the art software
Django experience: 1 year
Java experience: 1 year
Web services experience: 1 year
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Ability to take direction and work with minimal supervision.
Ability to work in deadline driven environment, and respond creatively to pressure.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent trouble-shooting skills.
Knowledge and experience with embedded development environments.
