Primary responsibilities include management, maintenance and deployment of IT hardware and software at the Arlington, VA facility, as well as supporting external users located in dispersed geographic locations.
Operating systems include: MS Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2000, 2003, and 2008 R2. Backend systems are managed both directly and remotely for file and print services and backup services using Symantec Backup Exec 12.5. Typical desktops operate using MS Office 2007, MS Visio, MS Project and Adobe Acrobat products. Installations vary according to user needs and job descriptions. Inventory control/asset management, asset recovery and retirement are handled using MS Excel and Access databases. Hardware upgrades, repairs and maintenance are performed onsite for systems that require it. Install software patches and updates for all applications in use, with emphasis on critical patches. On-the-spot training and technical support provided to users for all applications and systems, when required.

systems used to cool network server room and vital areas. Provide technical support and programming of Nortel Network telephone system. Manage and maintain telephone and network cabling and infrastructure systems, including T- l, ISDN, DSL, and POTS lines. Coordinate issues related to IT infrastructure with the Division Network Team as well as telephone and data service providers. Ensures print devices, to include network printers and copiers, operate properly. Provide reports on software usage and patch management to Division IT. Provide competent advice on the procurement of systems related to IT infrastructure, such as printers, copiers, scanners, fax, VTC, and cell phones.
The Senior Network & Systems Administrator is expected to perform the following:
Determine organization needs in a network and computer system before it is set up
Install all network hardware and software and make needed upgrades and repairs
Maintain network and computer system security and ensure all systems are operating correctly
Collect data to evaluate the network's or system's performance and help make the system work better and faster
Train users on the proper use of hardware and software when necessary
Solve problems quickly when a user or an automated monitoring system lets them know about a problem
Qualifications
College Degree (Bachelors) with minimum 5 years hands-on systems administration. Systems administration experience and certifications may be substituted.
