Blackstone Valley Mayoral Academy is now hiring rock star team members for the 2013-14 school year who are willing to do whatever it takes to put all scholars on a path to college. We are seeking a 1:1 aid to join our team for the 2013/14 school year, preferably an aid with training/certification or prior work experience working with children who have severe autism. Blackstone Valley Prep is driven by state standards and the use of data to understand student needs. Our teachers receive frequent, specific feedback and support from their principal and from their peers and are motivated by a desire to continuously improve their practice. Likewise, all of our teachers are held accountable for clearly outlined student outcomes.
Instruction at Blackstone Valley Prep is driven by local and and Common Core State Standards and aligned assessments to determine scholar needs. Our teachers frequently receive targeted feedback and support from their principal and from their peers and are motivated by a desire to continuously improve their practice. Likewise, all of our teachers are held accountable for clearly outlined student outcomes. Collaboration is a must as our team often co-plans lessons and co-teaches.
Our school day and year are both extended and teachers are held to high expectations to collaboratively plan creating a full day of instruction that maximizes learning time and provides high quality standards based instruction. The extended school day and school year at BVP are part of the high expectations focus of our schools. Teachers maximize every second of learning time so that our scholars receive eight plus hours a day of high quality standards based instruction. Teachers also teach several Saturday Opportunity Days to provide targeted small group instruction to students who need additional academic intervention and support. While teachers’ scheduled hours are 7:30AM-4:30PM, it is more common for our team to work much longer hours to prep 100% of scholars for success in college.

Responsibilities of a BVP Team Member:
o Hold all scholars to high academic and behavioral expectations.
o Actively participate in the RTI process and provide appropriate interventions or enrichment.
o Positively frame behavioral expectations and adhere to the agreed upon school-wide behavior system built upon BVP PRIDE values.
o Build positive relationships with scholars and their families grounded in the belief that all scholars can achieve at high levels.
o Make learning rigorous and fun.
o Participate in and lead professional development when appropriate
o Commit to the adult PRIDE values including striving for 100% success and supporting our scholars and families to get there; respecting each other and assuming the best; asking for and providing honest feedback to hold ourselves and each other accountable; adhering to team norms that are created jointly; and approaching our work with a sense of urgency anchored in joy and fun.
o Conduct yourself in accordance with BVP’s mission and values, attend meetings, and participate in school-related activities whenever appropriate for your position.
