The Mechanical Engineering Group has expertise in mechanical design for systems ranging from large antenna structures to mechanisms and optical systems as well as experience in static, dynamic, thermo-elastic and opto-mechanical analyses. The group is the Engineering Division's center for 3D computer-aided design. The group provides mechanical design, electronics packaging and cable design for ground, airborne and space systems. Example projects include airborne and space-based laser communications systems, biological agent detectors and identifiers, and large radar antenna systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Specific Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and participate in the mechanical design, analysis and specification of ground-based, airborne, and space-based electro-mechanical systems.
Responsibilities will include developing design solutions for such systems in all phases of the design process from initial concept to final configuration. Designs must also be translated into specifications suitable for competitive procurement. The successful candidate will be expected to present the design concepts to both internal and external audiences. The position may require travel to meetings and field sites.
: Advanced degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with a minimum of 10 years of applicable experience.
: Candidate must be a U.S. citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
: Requires demonstrated experience in performing mechanical design, analysis and specification development for advanced electronics packaging deployed on spacecraft, aircraft and ground systems.
: Electronics packaging experience must include high speed analog, high speed digital and electro-optic systems.
: Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment and demonstrate good written and oral communication skills.
: Experience with advanced packaging materials is highly desirable.
