About KIPP New Orleans Schools
In its sixth year of operation, KIPP New Orleans Schools (KNOS) is building an influential network of tuition-free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public charter schools that empower students with the knowledge and character traits to be lifelong learners and leaders. KNOS operates nine high-performing schools on eight campuses, serving 3,200 of our city’s highest-needs students. By 2015, we aim to ultimately grow to 12 schools, five primary, five middle and two high schools. At this scale, KNOS will enroll close to 5,300 students, or 13% of the current public school population in our city. Ultimately, through this work, we endeavor to see 1,000+ first-generation college graduates by 2022.
With longer school days, innovative teaching, and a motivating learning environment, we are working to ensure that all of our students are prepared for college and beyond. KIPP students are assigned homework every night, and KIPP teachers are available by cell phone to assist as necessary. KIPP schools in New Orleans embrace the spirit of New Orleans with band, visual arts, or other fine arts available at every school.
KIPP New Orleans Schools is associated with the national KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) Network, which recruits and trains school leaders to open KIPP schools across the country. The KIPP network is rapidly growing; there are currently 125 KIPP schools in 20 states and the District of Columbia, serving more than 39,000 students.
