This position reports to the Electrical Supervisor or designee, performing journey-level skilled technical work in the maintenance, repair and installation of air conditioning, refrigeration and related equipment.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
Repairs and maintains air conditioning systems refrigeration equipment, cooling systems, water fountains, ice machines and related equipment.
Plans and implements a preventative maintenance program for all air conditioning systems and related equipment in the City on a monthly basis.
Preventative and other maintenance duties on air conditioning systems include, but are not limited to, changing filters; checking freon (or other approved gas) levels; cleaning coils; checking evaporator water drains, oil levels and bearing performance in motors; checking belts, electrical wiring, thermostats, defrost timers, among other items.
Plans and implements the installation of standard air conditioning systems, components and related equipment, often with the assistance of additional skilled and semi-skilled employees of various job descriptions in the Building Maintenance Division.
This employee is on-call on a twenty-four (24) hour, seven (7) day a week basis to service the City's air conditioning and related systems.
Maintains accurate electronic records of all repairs and maintenance activities per system maintained and repaired.
Assists other Divisional skilled trade and non-skilled workers in the maintenance and repair of municipal buildings and equipment, sometimes performing functions not related to air conditioning and related systems.
Must have basic computer skills to control, monitor and operate the City's Building Energy Management System
Performs related work as required.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Stays abreast of the advancements in the field of air conditioning, refrigeration and related operations
in terms of new techniques, procedures, equipment and supplies being utilized in the field.
Ability to prepare basic air conditioning system plans, cost out jobs and prepare material cost sheets.
May conduct training sessions in the proper and safe use of tools, equipment and supplies.
Maintains safe operation record of City vehicles, tools, and other equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED
TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including a vehicle, trucks, and tools of the trade, etc. Must be able to exert up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to life, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work; must be able to remain on feet for periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull, lift, carry and perform manual tasks. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of up to seventy-five (75) pounds.

Requires ability to read a variety of policies and procedures, equipment manuals, codes, technical diagrams, etc. Requires the ability to prepare maintenance reports, purchase requisitions, daily and weekly reports, etc. with proper format. High school diploma, GED or equivalent; supplemented by six (6) years' experience in air conditioning and refrigeration maintenance, repair and installation. Must possess a Broward County Air Conditioning Mechanic's license or equivalent. Must possess a valid State of Florida CDL Class B driver's license.
