Each child works with a team of therapists at Little Star Center. Each child’s team is made up of one Primary Therapist and several Secondary Therapists. The Primary Therapist ensures the necessary materials for effective programming are available. The Secondary Therapist is a part of the child’s team and delivers the individualized programming. A therapist will only be Primary Therapist to one child at a time but can be a Secondary Therapist to several children at once.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Secondary ABA Therapist
  • Executes ABA therapy programs, including maintenance programs as prescribed by the child’s treatment team and maintains daily data collection as directed
  • Implements appropriate behavior management techniques as prescribed by behavior plan
  • Assists child with daily self-help skills
  • Engages child in interactive and meaningful play during breaks and downtime in motor room. Keeps breaks to an appropriate length
  • Captures and contrives opportunities to teach in the natural environment
  • Keeps child safe at all times Attends and participates in parent team meetings, assessments, therapist meetings, trainings and other meetings as requested by Program Manager, Clinical Director or Executive Director
  • Works collaboratively with other members of child’s treatment team and family
  • Communicates with Team Leader and Primary Therapist regarding all developments, problems or concerns as needed and responds appropriately to feedback
  • Adheres to diet, supplementation and medication protocols, per parent instructions
  • Assures Parent Communication Log is updated daily with appropriate information Refers parent to appropriate staff member with regards to non-therapy related questions
  • Maintains environment (cleans-up after child and self)
  • Maintains therapy areas and materials for the benefit of the whole center. Returns materials to their proper place with all parts and accessories intact. Turns electronics off after use
  • Provides and maintains an environment free of emotional, physical and sexual abuse. Reports any incidents or suspicions to Clinical Director or Executive Director
  • Refrains from any use of cell phones, Internet and email that is not related to Little Star duties
  • Respects the property of Little Star Center
  • Completes and submits required documentation in a timely manner (daily charge slips, Chart Notes, scorecard, time clock alternative reporting forms)
  • Requests time off well in advance, calls-out sick to the appropriate person by 7:00 am
  • Reports to work on time or calls appropriate person when going to be late
  • Acts as a positive role model for all staff, families and children working with LSC
  • Works to positively impact team spirit and overall morale
  • Maintains client confidentiality per LSC policy and HIPAA Privacy Rule Regulations
  • Completes Weekly Task Assignments daily in order to maintain a clean and hospitable work and therapy environment for all
  • Adheres to all LSC policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Team Leader, Program Manager, Clinical Director or Executive Director
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Primary ABA Therapist
  • All duties as described for Secondary ABA Therapist
  • Ensures that child’s book is current
  • Ensures that child’s board is updated
  • Ensures that child’s cubicle is neat and orderly. Materials that are not being used are sent home with parents or put back into general use for the Center
  • Ensures needed materials are available, creating them if necessary
  • Creates necessary data sheets
Educational Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree in ABA or related field is preferred, but not required
  • Experience working with children with autism is preferred, but not required
  • A positive team player and energetic professional
  • Strong organizational and time management skills along with the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Good judgment and creative thinking skills
  • Ability to communicate appropriately given the circumstances of the situation and individuals involved
  • Discretion in matters that need to remain private
