Description of Essential Functions:
1. Provide personal and career counseling for students 2. Conduct new student orientation sessions 3. Refer students to appropriate college departments and community agencies 4. Provide academic advisement for new, readmitting, and assigned continuing students 5. Be a Lake Land College resource for high school counselors and students in the college district 6. Maintain close communication with various colleges and universities in issues affecting transfer students 7. Assist in data collection and conduct basic research for program evaluation 8. Act as curriculum resource for assigned curricula and maintain close working relationships with faculty counterparts 9. Train for and teach a Strategies for Success course 10. Conduct/coordinate assigned areas of responsibility 11. Other related duties as assigned

Specific Functional Job Requirements

Education: Masters degree in guidance and counseling or student personnel services including supervised practicum experience Experience: Prefer community college counseling experience Knowledge: Knowledge of educational planning, career guidance resources, and counseling methodology Skills: Ability to work with a diverse population of students and staff; excellent interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills Personal: Strong sense of commitment to the community college philosophy and the continuous process of career and life planning; ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings Physical: Ability to travel around campus, throughout the district, and nationally to conduct registration or informational presentations; ability to work in a fast-paced environment; ability to lift 50 pounds

Machines & Equipment Used: College mainframe software, PC Client Server environment, Microsoft Office XP, Outlook, Internet Explorer, presentation equipment/software, facsimile machine, copy machine, Colleague Records System
