JOB SUMMARY

The Stroke Clinical Research Nurse provides nursing care to patients in an organized effective manner and supports complex research projects that involve the coordination of research activities. Effectively provides nursing care to patients. Assist in planning and coordination of research protocols. The Stroke Clinical Research Nurse practices Relationship Centered Care in concert with The Methodist Hospital values of Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence and ServicePride standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Demonstrates critical thinking, creativity, and versatility in problem solving and handling complex situations.

Maintains knowledge of patients condition and knows when to negotiate a change in the plan of care with physician and other team members.

Provides patient education regarding disease process and involves family/significant other when appropriate, in decision making process.

Maintains and updates patients in need of follow-up tests and appointments.

Acts as patient's advocate in coordinating with interdisciplinary team to facilitate holistic and goal-oriented approach to care across the continuum that meets the patient's physical, psychological and spiritual needs.

Collaborates and serves as liaison with physician and protocol sponsors and other staff to plan and execute project duties.

Coordinates study start-up activities including protocol submission to relevant committees and regulatory documents to study sponsors.

implements new studies including protocol submission to relevant committees and regulatory documents to study sponsor.

Implements complex research projects, including screening, and enrolling subjects, and conducting testing procedures required by study protocol, prepares presentations and schedules training for physicians, nurses and staff on research protocols.

Schedules diagnostic studies.

Handles incoming calls regarding patient care.

Authorizes prescription refills and assists physicians with patient care in clinic.

Participates in departmental and institutional meetings and assists in training other coordinators on protocols.

Maintains a professional and credible image with FDA and other regulatory agencies, sponsors, vendors, patients and co-workers.

Maintains accountability for ongoing professional growth and development. Participates in unit activities.

Displays ICARE values.

Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Associate Degree in Nursing required

Bachelors Degree preferred

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum of 1 to 5 years of experience required

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED

Current Registered Nurse Licensure in the State of Texas

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Supervisory experience required.

Requires highly effective communication skills.

Requires highly effective time management skills

Requires ability to understand and implement protocols.

Requires experience with computer database management.

Requires Microsoft Office skills.Requires strong interpersonal skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Extended periods of walking and standing may be required.

Lifting, pushing or pulling required (minimum 50 lbs.)
