JOB SUMMARY

The Bioenergetics lab is looking for a Research Assistant to provide technical support for laboratory based research involving human subjects and preclinical mouse models. The successful candidate will perform bench experimental techniques in biochemistry and molecular biology, breed and maintain mouse colonies, perform metabolic measurements in mice and collect tissues. This position will study mitochondrial function in metabolic diseases including obesity and heart failure.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under direction of the Director and Research Scientist, this position may include:

Working in a team on various projects

Handling human and/or animal tissue.

Animal handling, which may include tail cutting, breeding, weaning, euthanasia, minor surgical procedures and basic animal husbandry.

Bench chemistry, microbiology, molecular biology or other scientific techniques

Microscope work and image analysis

Collection of tissue, blood or other biological specimens

Collect, record, compile and analyze data

Taking inventory and maintain lab supplies and equipment.

Overseeing equipment calibration, certification and maintenance agreements.

Maintaining Safety, Emergency Preparedness, MSDS and other Laboratory Specific procedures.

Participating in the development or establishment of new laboratory procedures, including biological assays, quantitative and qualitative analyses.

Operating a variety of laboratory equipment.

Effectively utilizing computer systems, including office applications, and statistical or technical software.

Performing other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

BA/BS with 2-5 years experience

Or

Masters with no experience

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Two to five years of directly related research experience required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED

None required.
