JOB SUMMARY

Sr. Research Assistant provides technical support for laboratory based research in the Department of CV Surgery, RNAcore. The technician will generate multiple circular and linearized plasmids as well RNA stocks. The technician will track RNA stocks so as to maintain the RNAcore's depository. Furthermore, the technician will be responsible for quality control of the RNAcore's products using molecular and cellular techniques. To achieve these goals, the candidate will utilize a wide variety of advanced molecular and cell biology tools (see below). The technician will order reagents as necessary and maintain equipment in working order. The technician will work with laboratory Director to process requests for RNA constructs, to generate and ship the constructs, to invoice clients, to track expenses and income, and to communicate with clients and collaborators of the RNA core.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

With minimal direction and guidance of the Principal Investigator, Laboratory Manager or Director this position may include:

Handling human and/or animal tissue.

Animal handling, which may include tail cutting, breeding, weaning, euthanasia, surgical procedures and animal husbandry.

Bench chemistry, microbiology, molecular biology or other scientific techniques

Microscope work and image analysis

Write protocols, procedures, and edit manuscripts

Collection of tissue, blood or other biological specimens

Collect, record, compile and analyze complex data

Take inventory and maintain lab supplies and equipment.

' Track and manage expenses and invoicing for services of core.

Oversee equipment calibration, certification and maintenance agreements.

Maintain Safety, Emergency Preparedness, MSDS and other Laboratory Specific procedures.

Development or establishment of new laboratory procedures, including biological assays, quantitative and qualitative analyses.

Operate and maintain a variety of laboratory equipment.

Effectively utilizes computer systems, including office applications, and statistical or technical software.

Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

BA/BS with 5+ years experience

Or

Masters w/ 2-5 years experience

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Standard laboratory or vivarium environment; some assignments may be in hospital units with typical hospital environmental hazards and concerns.
