AFISRA Chinese Linguist-AZ (Job Number: 329700)
The linguist shall perform voice tasks; scanning materials to identify items that require further processing; categorizing and prioritizing materials for further processing; recover essential elements of information (EEIs); and providing gist’s, extracts, full, and verbatim transcripts. They shall also perform graphic tasks which will involve scanning written materials to identify items that require further processing; performing further processing of material in the format required, and producing translations of printed materials.
Daily written translation of general and technical material into and from English/Specified Contract Required Language (SCRL).
Interpreting aptitude, maintenance of integrity and meaning of material.
Produce transcription of aural SCRL language material into written form.
Write and speak in clear and concise grammar to and from the required SCRL.
Provide idiomatic translations of non-technical material using correct syntax and expression from English to the SCRL language or vice versa.
Conduct consecutive and accurate translations and interpretations of on-going conversations and activities.
Provide the cultural and ethnic context of their translations and interpretations.
Advise the supported commanders and organizations on the cultural and ethnic significance of statement, conversations, situations and documents.
GED/ HS diploma and 2 to 4 years general work experience. Work experience may be substituted for education and education may be substituted for work experience.:
Have and maintain a minimum proficiency in the target language Interagency Language Round Table (ILRT) level 3 in listening and reading.
Advanced working proficiency in English, ILRT level 2+, based on the current Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) version for each specific language.
Ability to write and speak in clear and concise grammar to and from the required SCRL.
ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of 1 to 4 years total cryptologic and/or relevant experience and 1 to 4 years of experience with Signals Intelligence (SIGINT). Associate’s Degree or higher preferred. CI poly preferred
