DEFINITION OF AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION:
Area 1 = AKNG permanent or indefinite technicians, excepted or competitive civil service currently employed with the Alaska Army or Air National Guard.
Area 2 = All Traditional Guard or Active Guard Reserves (AGR) members currently employed with the Alaska Army or Air National Guard.
Area 3 = All others who are eligible to become member of the Alaska Air National Guard.

Directs, monitors, or performs overall maintenance, servicing, inspections and documentation for one or more aircraft. Works with, coordinates and oversees the work of subordinate aircraft mechanics. Coordinates and oversees the work of journey level workers in other trades working simultaneously on the assigned aircraft. Reviews, trains and prepares to perform battle damage assessment/repair. Performs preflight, post-flight, thru-flight, phase, hourly and special inspections, as well as servicing, defueling, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. Serves as the technical authority to advise on, inspect and approve all airframe, mechanical, electrical/environmental, avionics, engine and pneudraulic repairs on assigned aircraft. Ensures aircraft documentation and Maintenance Information Systems (MIS) accurately reflect the air worthiness of the aircraft. Provides technical guidance and assistance to flight crews. Plans, develops and conducts training. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises and Operations Other Than War (OOTW). Complies with safety, fire, security, environmental and housekeeping regulations. Performs other duties as assigned.
General Experience is experience, education, or training which has provided you with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.
Specialized Experience is experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.
Length of time is not of itself qualifying. You will be evaluated on the basis of duties performed. Your record of experience and/or training must show possession of the following knowledge, skills and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position:
APPOINTMENT FACTORS: Excepted/Enlisted in the Alaska Air National Guard.
- Knowledge of and ability to understand the technical theory and operational characteristics, not only of the airframe, but of mission systems peculiar to the unit aircraft and assigned mission.
- Knowledge of the theory and operation of aircraft systems to be able to trouble shoot malfunctions and problems, and determine the extent of repairs.
- Ability to inspect aircraft and determine mechanical deficiencies and analyze results.
- Ability to interpret instructional material, schematics and specifications for complex mechanical problems on assigned aircraft.
- Knowledge of aircraft components and maintenance procedures.
- Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic and mechanical principles as applied to aircraft.
MILITARY COMPATIBILITY: If you are selected for this position, you will be required to become a member of the Alaska Air National Guard and be assigned to a compatible military assignment in one of the following AFSC: 2A3XX, 2A5XX.
