The department of Genetics, Development and Cell Biology is seeking a candidate for an Analyst/Programmer to provide continuous upkeep and improvements on the Plant Metabolomic Resource (http://metnetdb.org/PMR/) databases. PMR is a database for deposition and analysis of metabolomics and transcriptomics data of microbes and plants. It is currently being utilized by a variety of groups both at ISU and at other universities.
This position would be responsible for writing scripts and adapting/improving existing scripts that drive applications on our PMR web resource. It will also include work on creating data analysis capabilities and providing these as a service on the project website. This position will adapt the existing database to enable users to track submitted data and to search data and metadata. In addition, this position will define and implement data handling protocols for large datasets including experimental data and metadata.
The successful candidate will have the ability to work independently, solve problems and troubleshoot experiments. Strong organizational skills, efficient time management skills and the ability to maintain accurate laboratory records are essential.
Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field and one year experience in software programming related to bioinformatics OR equivalent related education and experience totaling five years in software programming related to bioinformatics.
Demonstrated expertise in the area of metabolomics/petroleomics/lipidomics or related large-scale MS-based compound analysis.
