The Computer Analyst/Programmer will be responsible for performing the tasks and duties outlined below under the guidance and direction of the Information Systems Manager. This position will be required to follow policies and procedures set forth by Physicians East, P.A. Abide by the policies and regulations set forth by the Health Information Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA), HCFA, and any other state and federal regulatory requirements necessary to perform the functions and technical requirements of the position. |
1. Programming Analysis:
Evaluates user requests for new or modified
computer programs to determine the system
feasibility and to determine the compatibility
with current systems, and computer
capabilities. Formulates a plan outlining steps
required to develop programs, using structured
analysis and design. Reviews plans with
Manager or Systems Analyst and/or users for
Prepares flow charts and diagrams to illustrate
sequence of steps program(s) must follow and
to describe logical operations involved. Plans,
develops, tests, and documents computer
programs, applying knowledge of programming
techniques and computer systems. Consults
with users to identify current operating
procedures and to clarify program objectives.
Reads manuals, periodicals, and technical
reports to learn ways to develop programs that
meet user requirements. Designs computer
displays to accomplish goals of user requests.
Converts project specifications, using flowcharts
and diagrams, into sequence of detailed
instructions and logical steps for coding into
computer language, applying knowledge of
computer programming techniques and
Enters program codes into the computer
system. Enters commands into the computer to
run and test programs. Reads computer
printouts or observes display screen to detect
syntax or logic errors during program test, or
uses diagnostic software to detect errors.
Replaces, deletes, or modifies codes to correct
errors. Analyzes, reviews, and alters program
to increase operating efficiency or adapt to new
Writes documentation to describe program
development, logic, coding, and corrections.
Writes manuals for users to describe installation
and operating procedures. Assists users to
solve operating problems and rewrites
programs to correct errors. May use computer-
aided software tools, such as flowchart design
and code generation, in each stage of system
development. May train users to use programs
May install and test programs at user sites. May
provide training. May provide technical
assistance to program users. May monitor
performance of programs after implementation.
May specialize in developing programs for
healthcare, business or technical applications.
2. Computer Implementations:
Assist with the implementation of new system
Assist with training for new upgrades and
Assist with technical support for applications and
Assist with software implementations that
integrate with current systems (IE: Centricity,
Nextgen, Orchard and other corporate systems
Attend scheduled meetings as necessary to
discuss technical/clinical content needs and
guidelines with each clinic/specialty area.
Work beyond normal working hours (and
sometimes weekends) to complete
implementation plans and/or upgrades required
by the department and/or organization.
2. Performs other related duties as assigned.

A four year degree in Computer Science (preferred) plus a minimum of two years on the job work experience or an associate degree in Computer Science or a related curriculum plus a minimum of three years of experience as an Analyst or Programmer Analyst working with Centricity EMR. Technical expertise preferred using Centricity EMR form editors, SQL, Crystal Reporting and Oracle database queries.
