Working under the supervision of the assistant director the Summer Tutor Counselor provides necessary tutoring to all program students. Tutors are being sought for the following subject areas: English, Math, Sociology, Biology. Responsibilities include: attending all class sessions of assigned courses and working closely with the professors; monitoring assigned students’ class attendance and fulfillment of class assignments; meeting regularly with assigned faculty to determine the proper procedures for augmenting classroom assignments; and submitting written reports on students’ progress. Working under the supervision of the residential coordinator, the Summer Tutor Counselor will serve as a counselor and resource to pre-freshmen students during the hours they are in the residence halls and in class, or during tutoring time. Responsibilities also include: providing and attending all social, cultural, and recreational activities during the afternoons, evenings, and weekends; maintaining an environment conducive to learning; providing personal, social, and academic peer counseling to students; submitting weekly reports on students’ social and personal progress; attending regular weekly staff meetings; and other duties as assigned by the director/assistant director. The Tutor Counselor is required to live in the residence hall for the duration of the five week summer program including weekends. All summer staff are also required to participate in an orientation program. This is a paid, live-in position, with room and board included. Compensation for the six-week summer program and staff orientation is $3,000.
Must be a current Union College student, or recent Union College graduate. Residential life experience preferred.
