Minimum Education and Experience:
The specialist band requires a foundation of knowledge and skills in area of specialization generally obtained from graduating from a four-year college or university with nine semester hours in programming and three years of experience in business application consulting or development. Experience in the field of work related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Special note: This position may exclusively require a bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the specific functions of the job. Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
This position is being recruited at the Journey Competency Level under the Career Banding Program. The hiring range for this position is $50,600 - $75,000.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position will help with data management, automated reporting, and software development to support clinical and research data integration for operational and research purposes. The person in this position will use open-source tools and write code to support Lineberger operations and research. In addition, this position has an important support role, helping current Lineberger Biospecimen and Data Repository users meet their data reporting needs. ESSENTIAL SKILLS: The selected candidate will be required to have ANSI SQL programming experience; Linux/Unix scripting and command line (grep, cut, join, cron, and others). Use of report design tools (Pentaho, Business Objects, Microstrategy are appropriate examples) will be essential, as well as effective communications with and support of users.

Preferred Qualifications:
Strength with a dynamic programming language (Perl, Ruby, Python) - clinical and research data often requires some pre-processing to be ready for client reporting needs and scripting helps speed this process. Web application development using HTML, CSS, and Javascript - in supporting our client's reporting needs we prefer to stay within our current supported tools, but also help clients with custom software development when appropriate. Previous work with clinical or research data will be favorably viewed.
