JOB DUTIES

Scope of the Job

An Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner is licensed in the State of Florida and, under administrative direction, provides medical/ surgical services to patients as defined by protocol filed with the State of Florida and signed by a physician licensed to practice medicine/surgery in the State of Florida. The Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner will assist with specific medical program and clinical operations; counsel patients regarding their health; prepares reports and summaries.

Essential Functions

The essential functions are the primary dimensions for performance review.

1.

Provide an evaluation of the patient including performance of adequate history and physical examination and/or ordering of laboratory and other diagnostic studies as indicated.

2.

Organizes elective sedations for the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.

3.

Coordinate schedules with the University of Florida, Department of Pediatrics, and Division for Pediatric Cardiology, the Radiology and Nursing Departments of Wolfson Children’s Hospital, the Neurology Department of Nemours Children’s Clinic and any others as necessary.

4.

Perform assessments before patients and discharged after sedation and provide anticipatory guidance to the family member.

5.

Assist with management of patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) under the guidance of the PICU attending physician when available.

6.

Cooperate with research and/or quality improvement related activities such as data collection when requested.

7.

Prepare necessary reports to the Sedation Committee and maintain the delineated hospital standards.

8.

Collaborate in developing and maintaining guidelines, forms and other discharge materials.

9.

Assist with other activities as assigned by the Division Chief of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine or designee.

Temperament

Must be able to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, or unusual situations. Must be capable of dealing with periodic cyclical workload pressures and levels of responsibility. Required to make independent judgments without supervision. Must be able to make generalizations, evaluations, or decisions based on sensory or judgmental criteria. Must have the adaptability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure. Requires the ability to work with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Skills

Knowledge of medical procedures and terminology of sedations; ability to implement and interpret policies and procedures; demonstrate clinical skill in sedation techniques and PICU care. Proficient in procedural sedations. An Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner is licensed in the State of Florida to practice professional nursing and will be in charge of the PICU procedural sedations and will act as liaison with the different departments to facilitate a smooth operation.

Experience

Appropriate experience in specialty area preferred

Two years experience in an intensive care setting.

Education and Certifications

Masters degree in nursing or graduate of a JCAHO approved nurse practitioner program

Current advanced nurse practitioner license in the State of Florida with prescription authority.
