Abbott is looking for an experienced chemist to work in the Pressure and Catalysis Group in Process Research and Development. The successful candidate will safely conduct research and development primarily relating to catalytic hydrogenation, carbonylation, and other gas-consuming or pressurized processes and may also perform catalytic cross-coupling chemistries.
Responsibilities will include performing small-scale screening and lab development experiments; characterization (e.g., HPLC, LCMS, GC, and basic NMR) and isolation of reaction products; description of reaction rates; operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of lab-scale reaction equipment; accurate documentation of experiments and reporting of their results; and support of pilot plant campaigns under cGMP.
Candidates must possess some mechanical aptitude and have good problem solving, computer (PC), and written and verbal communication skills. Previous experience with pressure equipment, automation, computer data acquisition and control, LabView programming, heterogeneous or homogeneous catalysis, organometallic or air-sensitive chemistry, and cGMP is helpful but not required.
Candidates must have strong mechanical, computer, communication (verbal and written), and multitasking skills.
A degree in Organic Chemistry or Chemistry required. A BS & 3-7 years of relevant experience or a MS & 0-5 years of relevant experience required.
