$15,000 - $16,000 annualized
This position will serve as an academic advisor to University pre-major (undeclared) SMU students.
This is a part-time position, 20 hour a week.
Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Education and Experience
- Advise students on academic and related matters;
- Guide students in selection of courses;
- Assist students in major exploration and selection, monitor progress of advisees towards the fulfillment of academic goals and requirements;
- Maintain knowledge of academic programs, regulations and procedures;
- Counsel students on academic probation;
- Serve on UAC committees and working groups;
A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of two years of work experience is required.
A Masters' degree with a minimum of one year of work experience is required.
Experience providing academic advising is strongly preferred. Experience in college advising, teaching, and/or counseling is highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Candidate must demonstrate strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to build relationships with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Must also demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in writing. Strong organizational skills and a focus on attention to detail are essential.
Candidate must demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Must also possess the ability to work independently with general supervision.
A strong working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel) is essential. Knowledge of basic web page construction is highly desirable. Knowledge of NACADA principles and core values is preferred. Experience with PeopleSoft is a plus.
