Responsible for advising and counseling undergraduate students of Revelle College concerning the academic requirements for the college and prerequisites to majors. Assist students with procedures, limitations, and regulations. Attention to detail essential. Co-responsibility for help desk. Process academic progress degree checks including computer input and related clerical procedures.
Occasional overtime may be required.
Experience in effective one-on-one counseling and active listening in an academic setting .
Professional training (Master’s Degree level, degree in progress, or equivalent experience).
Excellent interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility.
Must have skills needed for doing in-depth interviewing of students.
Ability to function as a group leader and facilitate group interactions.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally to individuals and large and small groups. Skill in training others.
Ability to identify and develop appropriate strategies in relation to specific populations and meet the needs of various groups and individuals.
Computer skills with ability to use Windows applications and University systems (e.g. ISIS).
Tact in dealing with students and colleagues in other college and campus offices. Demonstrated skill in problem solving and conflict resolution. Ability to deal with stressful students and situations.
