Under general direction, the purpose of the classification is to perform academic advisement of college students. Classification is responsible for counseling/advising students on degree/career programs, coordinating vocational development and job placement.
•Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or closely related field; with three (3) years’ experience and/or training that includes college admissions, academic advisement, career development, or program/project management.
•Community college academic advising experience
•Experience with educational software (e.g. Banner, Degree Works, etc.)
Identify and reinforce learning support pathways for students through intrusive advising and networked communication systems to ensure student engagement with tutoring, supplemental instruction, and other learning opportunities designed to improve student retention and degree completion.
Provide intrusive advising to a case load of 50 at-risk full time first time students.
Facilitate group advising events at all MWCC campuses.
Create and facilitate student success workshops.
Perform new, transfer, and readmitted student intake advising and assist students with educational planning; Perform registration activities including add/drop and course withdrawal advising;
Create and maintain program advising materials for various audiences (faculty, staff, and students) using multiple modalities (hard copies, web based, and video).
Provide training and professional development for faculty and staff advisors relating to Title III project.
Assist with the college’s communication plan/outreach activities to support student success (including but not limited to contacting no-show students, students with prerequisite errors, etc.);
Work with Title III team to create an assessment plan of the advising program at MWCC .
Serve on college committees and attend college meetings as needed and assigned;
Perform other duties as required.
