THE POSITION The Staff Accountant / Junior Controller is responsible for the accounting operations, including production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of accounting records and systems, and development and application of processes and controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company°s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and financial reporting standards. The Staff Accountant / Junior Controller reports directly to and supports the Vice President, Finance. RESPONSIBILITIES • Develops, implements and maintains internal accounting and financial reporting processes and controls • Updates and maintains QuickBooks accounting system by verifying, allocating, and posting transactions; conducts periodic bank reconciliation and general ledger updates • Leads A/R and A/P functions, including invoices, payments and collections • Prepares monthly, weekly and daily reports, including profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow, A/R, A/P, payroll • Supports senior management in development of financial projections, performance targets and budgets • Leads analysis of business results and performance variance • Communicates and coordinates with clients, vendors and accountants, as needed • Assists in compliance with federal, state, and local reporting requirements by understanding requirements, advising management on needed actions, and filing reports • Assists in preparation of year-end forms, including Form 1099 • Contributes to overall team effort REQUIREMENTS: • BS in Business Administration, Accounting or equivalent, CPA a plus • 2-5 years prior work experience in accounting role • Expertise with QuickBooks • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint • Strong project management, time management and multi-tasking skills • Strong analytical and decision making skills • Ability to dig for details and work on challenging projects • Strong communication and presentation skills
