Nature and Scope of Job:

To provide accounting support to the District Accountant by coordinating and monitoring operations of the Accounting Department. Specific accounts to include all grant funds, capital project funds, and other funds as determined by the District Accountant. Maintains the fixed asset inventory of the District. The Accountant I must establish a good rapport with all individuals in the School District, and convey a cheerful, helpful, and customer focused attitude

Job Functions:

Essential Functions:

1. Maintains and monitors the overall Governmental Accounting process used by the district daily to ensure that all practices used are in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

2. Creates reports monthly.

3. Balance journals and ledgers; tests and executes month-end and yearly closing on last working day of the month and year to ensure timely distribution of reports.

4. Reconcile district checking accounts to general ledger monthly.

5. Maintains an internal audit of account balances for possible over-expenditures and discrepancies monthly.

6. Distributes monthly expenditure reports to locations.

7. Assists with yearly audit with assigned auditors and department personnel in order to allow for full disclosure.

8. Creates reports when requested by administration.

9. Assists Director of Business and Finance and District Accountant in the annual budget creation.

10. Works within the core team of District Office administration personnel.

11. Display ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the district.

12. Protect confidentiality of records and information about staff, and use discretion when sharing such information within legal confines.

13. Adhere to federal statutes and regulations and Wyoming statutes and rules and regulations.

14. Performs activities related to fixed assets including researching invoices and tracking the compilation of project costs to determine proper accounting treatment of fixed assets, capital projects and capital leases; determining useful lives; maintaining depreciation schedules; and reconciling fixed Asset Schedules to District records.

15. Perform any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by their supervisor, and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.

Job Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills and Mental Ability:

1. Knowledge of Governmental Accounting policies and practices established by the Governmental Accounting Standard Board and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

2. Knowledge of ALIO financial accounting software, word processing, spreadsheets, and graphical software.

3. Ability to enunciate clearly, with public, in person, and over the phone.

4. Ability to communicate positively throughout the workday.

5. Ability to follow and successfully complete both written and oral directions.

6. Ability to think clearly and calculate accurately.

7. Ability to work with people of various personality types.

8. Ability to encourage and promote an atmosphere conducive to efficiency and productivity.

9. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

10. Exercise and possess sound emotional judgment, sustained concentration, and memory.

11. Adheres to deadlines

Education, License, Certification or Formal Training

A Bachelors degree (or higher) in Accounting. Preference given to CPA.

1. Display Stations connected to ALIO.

2. Printers to the ALIO system

3. Macintosh and/or Dell computers

4. Photocopy machines

5. Adding machine

6. Typewriter

Physical Demands

1. Digital finger strength necessary to type.

2. Lower body strength to stand and walk throughout the workday.

3. Lower body strength to climb ladder to reach shelves.

4. Upper body strength to lift up to 25 pounds and carry more than 50 feet throughout the work day.

5. Have visual acuity and stamina to work at computer monitor throughout the workday.

6. Be able to sit for long periods.

Environmental Demand:

1. Air conditioned building.

2. Fluorescent lighting.
