The Controllers Department at Iowa State University is seeking qualified applicants for an accountant to be filled at the Accountant II or Accountant III level.
This position will be responsible for preparing multiple bank reconciliations, maintaining records, and resolving exceptions and mismatches with banks. Maintaining due diligence and annual remittance of escheated items, remitting monthly sales and excise tax payments, preparing quarterly returns, submitting monthly state sales tax reports and annual federal fuel tax refund requests, assigning bank codes, and releasing vouchers daily in the Accounts Payable System are also responsibilities of this position. In addition, this position will be responsible for auditing non-travel reimbursements, completing the follow-up for outstanding issues, preparing a schedule of prepaid expenditures for the year-end financial report, assisting with the updating of routing paths for employee reimbursements to reflect staff changes in the affected departments, and assisting with the auditing of travel reimbursements.
In addition to the above duties, the Accountant III will provide a higher level of customer service by answering more complex questions based upon an overall understanding of federal regulations, ISU costing policy, and other relevant ISU policies.
The successful candidate will have the ability to meet deadlines in a high-volume accounting environment, pay great attention to detail, and possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for frequent contact with faculty, staff, students, banks and other external contacts.
Accountant II: Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance related field and one year of professional accounting experience.
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance related field and two years of professional accounting experience.
Experience working in banking operations or in performing high-volume bank reconciliations.
Sales and excise tax experience.
Minimum $37,113 (II), $39474 (III); commensurate with qualifications
