Northeastern Junior College, one of 13 member-colleges of the Community Colleges of Colorado, lies in the rural northeastern Colorado town of Sterling, located 128 miles northeast of Denver. The community of approximately 12,000 residents enjoys easy access to Denver, the Rocky Mountains and the western-agricultural lifestyle. Northeastern Junior College enrolls approximately 950 full-time and 1,500 part-time students through 90 majors in associate degree and certificate programs. As a residential campus with five halls accommodating 450+ students, the college attracts students from throughout Colorado, many states and several foreign countries.

Note: Position will typically work 30 hours per week, Monday thru Friday 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM. This position may occasionally have extended/evening hours during peak periods. Applicant selected for hire will be required to acquire working knowledge of and the ability to utilize SCT Banner, via training provided subsequent to hire.

Description of Job:

Duties: This part-time position is located in the Cashier’s Office at Northeastern Junior College. Primary duties and responsibilities include: conduct all aspects of cashiering functions in the Cashier Office to include verifying and maintaining related documents. Provide financial service support to the students, faculty, staff and other outside organizations. Explain college policies, procedures, state rules and regulations to students and others. Handle cash of up to $450,000 daily while waiting on students, faculty, staff and community members. Balance cash drawer and varying cash on hand. Work as cashier at out-of-office College functions such as basketball and volleyball games. Position will sell tickets, check ID’s, monitor the entrance and maintain activity file. Provide customer service via the telephone, route incoming calls, take messages, give information and answer general questions. Proficiency in the use of a variety of Microsoft Office applications to include Word to compose correspondence, reports, etc., utilize Excel to maintain spreadsheets, Outlook to maintain calendars and appointments, and Banner for a variety of tasks.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions and Conditions of Employment:

Minimum Qualifications: One year of clerical accounting or technical accounting experience. Do not use "see resume" statements on the aplication; your application must be completed in detail documenting your experience. The technical or clerical accounting experience must have been performed as the main function of the job. Daily interaction with students, faculty and staff requires this position to have strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Candidate must have experience providing customer service and interfacing with a variety of people from many levels within an organization and community. Effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary for success in this position. Part time experience will be prorated.

Substitutions: One year (30 semester credits) of college, university or non-correspondence business school from an accredited institution which included nine (9) semester credit hours of accounting can substitute for the required experience listed above. You must submit a copy of your transcripts verifying the required credits needed by application deadline.

Preferred Qualifications: Please provide a detailed description on your application of your relevant work experience and document examples of your work in relation to the following: Experience verifying and balancing credit card payments and accounts; experience preparing bank deposits; experience working with a student information system such as SCT BANNER or similar system; and ability to deal with a diverse population with discretion and tact. Degree in Accounting. Accuracy in keyboarding and 10-key by touch. Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks. Familiar with Colorado Fiscal Rules. Prior experience working in a cashiering/accounting office of an educational institution.

Conditions Of Employment: Must submit to and successfully pass a pre-employment background check and credit check as a condition of hire.
