Our team seeks an Adaptive Instruction Analyst with a background in the sciences - chemistry, physics, and biology in particular. Our Adaptive Instruction Analysts bridge the gap between the data scientist and the traditional educator, working toward learner-centered solutions while keeping system considerations in mind.

The primary tasks include:

  • Help implement and iterate on a framework that describes educational content, with the goal of optimizing student outcomes in adaptive courses
  • Interpret data analysis about course content and use any findings to suggest improvements to the content, to the product, and to the descriptive framework itself
  • Responsibilities:
    • Build out educational taxonomies in the sciences to drive Knewton ’s platform vision forward
    • Consult with major partners to help with the science taxonomy development and implementation process, aiming to make it intuitive, scalable, and extensible
    • Leverage learning theories and best practices in instruction to help design experiments and suggest product features
    • Interpret data analysis about content in the platform, and draw conclusions about content and course efficacy that feed back in the form of recommendations to product or content development and/or refinements to our taxonomies
    • Help to frame questions that inform data analysis work, especially around course success, content efficacy, student success, and student progress
    • QA adaptive recommendations to ensure continuity in instruction
    • Experience in and passion for the field of education, and an ability to think broadly about the intersection of technology and education
    • Strong written skills in English
    • Scrupulous attention to detail
    • Strong quantitative and analytical skills
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
    • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees and partners
    • Strong organizational skills and capacity to communicate in cross-functional groups
    • Bachelor ’s degree, with a major or Master ’s in chemistry, physics, biology,or physiology
    • 2+ years of teaching experience in one of these subjects; Master ’s degree in education a huge plus
    • Familiarity with educational standards in pertinent domains
    • Technical, computer science, or library/information sciences experience a big plus
    • Exposure to the educational technology landscape a plus
