All adjunct faculty are required to be part of the Michigan Public Schools Employee Retirement System (MPSERS). Adjunct faculty are eligible to receive tuition benefit during the following academic year based on the contacts taught in the previous academic year.
This adjunct faculty member is responsible for teaching in the Visual Communications Academic Area, preparing and delivering instruction to students in cooperation with other faculty, teaching the capstone class of the department that aids students in compiling a professional looking and complete portfolio package based on their occupational and educational goals. This adjunct faculty member will impart various methods of preparing professional portfolios, as well as the packaging and marketing of portfolios tailored to further education and/or job interviews related to career goals in visual communications. Field trips to local firms as well as consultation in preparing a resume, digital portfolio, and other self-promotional pieces will round out the complete student portfolio package. This adjunct faculty member will employ a range of suitable strategies to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions and encourage active learning in all students, maintain proper class-related records, and promptly assess student coursework and apprise students of progress. The adjunct faculty member is a member of the professional teaching staff that is responsible for effectively implementing the mission of NMC and the Humanities Academic Area. The ideal candidate should be a working Graphic Design / Art Direction professional that is used to giving constructive feedback and creative direction to a creative staff. Exposure to current trends in working / graduate level portfolios, AIGA membership and connections to the local design community are a plus.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATES and LICENSES
Minimum of two years related professional experience as an art director or creative director
Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts (BFA) or related field
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
Direct experience working with programmers
WORK HOURS :
This is a part-time position. This class meets Spring semesters Mondays/Wednesdays 5:30-7:30pm.
