The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) engages families for success. Its Division of Child Support Enforcement (DCSE) manages 349,000 cases to ensure that child support payments of $657 million per year reach families across the Commonwealth.
The Administrative Staff Assistant provides administrative support to the Fairfax District DCSE office. The incumbent serves as the primary person for human resource functions and provides administrative and clerical support to the District Manager. Duties may include composing and processing correspondence; responding to requests for information; serving as a liaision with the Human Resources and other headquarters staff, vendors, leasing office and maintenance personnel; preparing and submitting monthly statistical reports; maintaining and reconciling leave and attendance records; processing requests to fill vacancies and other hiring paperwork; ensuring office procurement activities are in compliance with state procurement regulations; maintaining office supply inventory; maintaining administrative and personnel files; coordinating travel arrangements and records for state vehicles; and coordinating training enrollment and records.
Knowledge of human resource principles and practices. Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply office administrative principles and systems; plan, prioritize, and organize workflow; exercise sound, independent judgement in receiving and responding to customer inquiries, researching issues and resolving them in a timely and appropriate manner; handle sensitive situations; interpret policies and procedures; work with colleagues and peers to accomplish shared goals; make sound independent decisions; communicate with a diverse public and staff; and maintain confidential data and records. Skill in effective written and oral communication; the use of a personal computer, word processing applications and automated information systems; and drafting, formatting and editing written correspondence and reports. Working experience in an office environment.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience performing administrative support duties in an executive office preferred.
Experience in human resource administrative support preferred.
Bilingual skills preferred.
Employment with VDSS will be contingent upon completion of a background investigation that includes a criminal history check, employment verification, and previous supervisor/reference checks.
