The starting salary is $15.021 per hour, plus excellent benefits. This is a full-time (100%) position. A 6-month probationary period is required. The pay schedule/range is 03-12.

This position is located at the University of Wisconsin-Madison/College of Agricultural & Life Sciences / Agricultural Research Station in Spooner.

Job Duties:

This position is responsible for farm equipment operation and specialized agricultural work related to the research nature of the cropping activities at the Station. The Spooner Research Station has 388 acres used for Research and Demonstration in Northwest Wisconsin. It has 220 tillable acres, 90 irrigated acres, and a complete line of farm machinery with a large quantity of research equipment. This position is also responsible for maintenance and repair of farm equipment, facilities, and grounds. The Station has a small staff delegated to do a wide variety of jobs, including assisting with the sheep care duties. Most of the time work is done without direct supervision, demanding knowledge, listening abilities, initiative, care, and good judgment by the employees. Employees are also expected to relate well with the public.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge and skill in the safe and proper operation of trucks and other farm vehicles; agronomic field crop methodology; equipment necessary for all aspects of field crop production; proper operation of tractors, skid-steers, end loaders, and forklifts; general and preventative maintenance of farm buildings, facilities, and farm equipment; safety precautions involved in the operation of all farm equipment, handling pesticides, fertilizer, and chemical, and lifting of heavy objects; current pesticide application, handling methods, and calibration of equipment for planting, insecticide, fertilizer, and herbicide application; and communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills needed to interact with professional researchers, supervisors, fellow employees, visitors, and the general public. Ability to lift weights of 50-100 pounds.
