This position performs maintenance duties in support of the city airport.

Minimum age of 18. Must possess a high school diploma or GED and a valid NC driver's license.

Major Duties:

Performs runway inspections; repairs lights, signs, and markers; removes debris.

Mows all grassy areas inside and outside of airport property fences.

Performs electrical repair and maintenance of electrical systems and lighting on runway and grounds and inside terminal building.

Removes trash from all areas of terminal building, restaurant, and control tower.

Cleans all terminal restrooms.

Performs repair and maintenance of heating and air conditioning and plumbing systems.

Maintains and repairs generators and other airport equipment.

Maintains and operates snow removal equipment.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Qualifications:

Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.

Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

Knowledge of airport operations and maintenance procedures.

Knowledge of local ordinances and department rules and regulations.

Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidelines and local airport operations guidelines.

Knowledge of airfield lighting maintenance and repair.

Knowledge of the repair and maintenance of electrical, plumbing, and heating and air conditioning systems.

Skill in the use of dump trucks, snow plows, tractors and other equipment used in the maintenance of the airport runway.

Skill in the maintenance of airport facilities and grounds.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee must occasionally lift light and heavy objects, climb ladders, and use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. The employee must be able to distinguish between shades of color.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in an office, hangar, and outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, and inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
