The Dow Chemical Company located in Midland, MI is seeking qualified college students for an Alternating Term Co-op opportunity. This position targets a full-time work term beginning in the fall of 2013, returning to the local college full-time for the following term, returning to Dow full-time for the next term, and so forth.

JOB PURPOSE

The position exists to provide laboratory support for the Midland Fundamental Problem Solving (FPS) group.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Design and conduct experiments using analytical and engineering tools

Run reactions in the lab, collect and analyze reactor samples

Troubleshoot instrument hardware and software

Partner with technical experts and assist in the development and implementation of instrumentation into Dow businesses

Provide data necessary for problem solving and patent support

Develop and implement image analysis algorithms to generate data for statistical analysis

Record experimental results in log books, write experimental drafts of work, present data to technology teams

Independently initiate actions necessary to successfully complete projects

Work with leader to prioritize projects to meet the changing needs of Dow businesses

Qualifications

All candidates that receive a job offer will be required to:
Pass a Substance Abuse (drug) screen and a medical evaluation

Pass a background check

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

Students must be enrolled at an accredited LOCAL College or University with a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester

Students must have and maintain an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.700 or higher on a 4.000 scale to met the requirement of Dow's Local Student Program

Student must be registered/enrolled in their college co-op program and comply with their policies and requirement in addition to Dow’s

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate must be pursuing at least a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry.
