Big Brothers Big Sisters of Siouxland is currently seeking and accepting resumes of dedicated individuals to serve on our 2013-2014 AmeriCorps team. Our primary goal is to utilize the skills and talents of our AmeriCorps members to execute the core mission of our organization- to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported 1-to-1 relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for the coordination, implementation and ongoing match support of the school-based mentoring program in the specified territory. This individual will ensure child safety, positive impacts for youth, constructive and satisfying relationships between children, volunteers, and schools, and a strong sense of affiliation with BBBS on the part of all customers. The successful incumbent will produce positive outcomes in the following areas: volunteer yield rate and processing time, child yield rate and processing time; match closure rate, average match length, custom-er satisfaction, and school relationships and satisfaction.

This volunteer position is funded through the AmeriCorps program, performing service activities on behalf of Big Brothers Big Sisters. This is a 12 month contract with a commitment to serve at a minimum, 1,700 hours while receiving a living allowance of $12,100.00 paid in increments every two weeks. The member will receive an educational award of $5,550.00 upon successful completion of the contract. Education awards can be put toward tuition, student loans or school expenses.

SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Establish and maintain a professional working relationship with schools in the specified area. Identify and work with key stakeholders in the schools to create a quality program.
2) Work with community partners to identify volunteers for participation in the school-based program.
3) Ensure the Standards of Practice, Service Delivery Model, and BBBS of Siouxland Policies and Procedures are being followed at all times.
4) Coordinate volunteer enrollments, including individual orientations, interviews, and completion of any other enrollment processes in accordance with the Service Delivery Model, Standards of Practice, and BBBS of Siouxland Policies and Procedures.
5) Coordinate child enrollments, including child interviews, communication with par-ents/guardians, communication with teachers or school officials, and completion of any other enrollment processes in accordance with the Service Delivery Model, Standards of Practice and BBBSMV Policies and Procedures.
6) Match children with appropriate mentors.
7) Ensure that all match files are accurate, timely, and in accordance with the Service Delivery Model.
8) Ensure that ongoing match support of all stakeholders is provided in a timely manner within the requirements of the Standards of Practice and Service Delivery Model. Match support includes, but is not limited to:

  • Through scheduled in-person, telephone and electronic contact with matches, ascertaining that the elements of child safety, match relation-ship development, positive youth development and volunteer satisfaction are fulfilled and that potential problems and barriers are identified and addressed as early as possible.
  • Form and sustain appropriate child, adult volunteer-based relationships based on positive youth development and volunteer satisfaction are fulfilled and that potential problems and barriers are identified and ad-dressed as early as possible.
  • Effectively assess and execute the following relational support skills: guiding, supporting, confronting, advising and/or negotiating; relate well in multicultural environments; effectively collaborate with other volunteer match staff; use time effectively; and focus on details.
  • Assessing and implementing individual training needs.
  • Ensuring high-level proficiency in applying child safety and risk management within the matches.
  • Developing strategic interventions to identify and strengthen match relationships that require extra support.
  • Conducting evaluations on matches when needed.
  • Conducting exit interviews by phone or in person with all parties at match closure. Assess reasons for match closure and re-match potential.

9) Provide timely and comprehensive written summaries of all contacts with accordance to national and local standards in the AIM system.
10) Administer measurement tools, to include strength of relationship and youth outcome surveys.
11) Administer required measurement tools to all stakeholders.
12) Represent BBBS at special events and fairs.
13) Encouraged to participate in BBBS fundraisers and special events which generate funding for AmeriCorps projects.
14) The program may require the member to engage in other allowable activities that are not specifically outlined in the position description, but that support the AmeriCorps program design and which help the program meet its goals. In no circumstance will members be asked to perform prohibited activities outlined in the Member Service Agreement.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in social services or related field preferred. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, and Excel. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Must have the ability to use time effectively, work independently, focus on details, relate well to multicultural environments, and collect meaningful data to draw conclusions. Must have automobile, valid driver’s license, and appropriate automobile insurance.
