PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Cost Analyst position is a key position working to implement Finance value drivers. Responsibilities for this position include working with Ewing, Broadway, Cherokee, and Dekalb to reduce unabsorbed COGS, reduce product variances, and analyze profitability by Initiative and BU. Value contributions include timely and accurate cost information for product pricing decisions, profitability by production department, and accurate inventory balances for Financial Reporting.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
' Analyze and review COGS accounts for variances, and journalize necessary corrections
' Complete month end close responsibilities accurately and on time to help ensure Sigma's $170 million inventory is properly valued and $150M COGS are properly stated
' Development of standard costs, analyze manufacturing variances, review planned production variances to ensure appropriate absorption of expenses
' Provide timely monthly reporting, assist with budgeting and forecasting
' Provide financial and accounting support to other departments and auditors, and drive process improvements. Have a physical presence in the St. Louis manufacturing locations to ensure accurate costing and absorption.
' Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley and GAAP requirements to include development and maintenance of documentation for current processes
Education: College degree required with a major in finance or accounting is preferred . CPA or MBA is a plus.
Experience: Three or more years of experience, preferably with some cost experience. Manufacturing experience in a company with a large base of product preferred. An understanding of inventory management principles and systems is highly desirable .
Essential and Critical Skills: An understanding of standard cost systems and GAAP is needed. Experience with Microsoft Excel and Access, and SAP, is preferred, and a desire to improve one's skills with the software is imperative. Successful candidate must have the ability to use critical analytical thinking, and be able to summarize detailed analysis and make recommendations for improvement.
