Lead a global team focusing on

supporting new product development by providing guidance on the performance of new products in paint, with particular focus on market based products. This Coating Applications Group will determine the necessary application testing required to support the product development efforts and will work closely with the technical service group in customer focused projects and launching products

The specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Application Development – Develop an understanding of the structure-property relationship of additives and the interactions with other components used for formulating water based coating systems. Develop performance data to support the positioning of existing and new ASI additives versus competitive products. Understanding the performance of additives in both existing and new coating applications/markets.

Innovation – Interfaces and works closely with the R&D functions, to help identifying and quantifying new and innovative additive technologies. Drives new technologies/product development programs through the stage gate process.

Collaboration – Manages application development of new additive technology from concept through validation potentially with internal and external partners; ensures effective transfer of prototypical technology to the commercial application for successful customer launch and final commercialization.

Intellectual Property - Provides assistance in the preparation of patent applications.

Customer Interface - Interacts with and supports the Regional Sales Service Teams. Interacts directly with customers when specialized support is required in order to strengthen relationships at the technical level and help further developing business opportunities. Makes customer visits with Sales Service to educate customers on new technology developments, support product launch activities and investigate new opportunities.

People Development - Mentor, coach and develop personnel within the technology group to achieve personal and professional development goals.

Safety - Ensure safe operations of all laboratory work and strict compliance with all applicable regulations and company’s safety policies

Qualifications

Degree in polymer science, colloid science or chemistry

Minimum of 10 to 15 plus years experience in the development and/or technical service of additives in the coatings industry. Experience with water based coating systems and paint is preferred.

Proven project management skills. Capable of leading a cross functional product development team.

Has proven experience successfully leading a diverse, global technical team with team members based in different locations in the world (i.e. USA, Europe and Asia).

Excellent communication and reporting skills

Ability to lead projects with different levels of complexity in a matrix organization.

Strong drive for results; familiar with working against deadlines

Demonstrate technical ability and alignment with account strategy

Excellent communications and business acumen skills

Ability to inter-relate effectively with senior management

Ability to work well under pressure
