The Applications Manager is responsible for working in a team environment to help develop, maintain, and support mission-critical applications while working closely with WWP team members to provide project as well as ongoing operational support for applications and databases. Work with developers to identify system requirements, data sources, and data flow. Partner with business unit clients, vendors and team members to resolve business issues in a timely and efficient manner. Successfully complete all assigned tasks, gain a complete understanding of each overall project and business application, and remain current with the latest technologies and industry/business trends.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Review workflow charts developed by developers/analysts to understand tasks a WWP system will perform, such as updating records
  • Work as part of a project team to coordinate application and database development and determine WWP project scope and limitations
  • Plan and analyze performance requirements
  • Analyze performance of application and database servers
  • Oversee backup, clustering, mirroring, replication and failover and testing of backups
  • Develop standards and guidelines to guide the use and acquisition of software and to protect vulnerable information
  • Direct application developers to make changes where applicable
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies to best support WWP initiatives
  • Approve, schedule, plan, and supervise the installation and testing of new products and improvements to computer applications
  • Identify and evaluate non-profit industry trends to serve as a source of information and advice for upper management
  • Gather and document system requirements for new development or system enhancements/modifications.
  • Create unit and systems test plans for assigned projects as necessary
  • Participate in the testing process as necessary
  • Train and mentor peers in the use of new tools, languages, and procedures.
  • Conform to project documentation and programming standards
  • Knowledge of non-profit organizational business process terminology
  • Ability to work in a team and to accept different roles at different times per project requirements
  • Experience dealing with outside application development vendors both onsite and remotely a plus
  • Interact with the analysts and other technical staff to fine-tune the technical requirements
  • May provide supervision/management to technical staff and oversight to external application vendors
  • Knowledge and understanding of prevailing SDLC methodologies. (Waterfall, Agile, RUP)
  • Testing methodologies for functional, systems, integration, performance and UAT

Required Skills
  • Mentor and train team members that have been assigned. Provide coaching as needed in order to help develop their skills. Review work for accuracy and completeness and take overall responsibility of daily operations of the team
  • Perform performance reviews of team members to accurately and objectively assess team members- performance, schedule training to compliment team members- skills and the business needs, and inform management of possible risks
  • Ensure proper coverage of team responsibilities through scheduling of team members. Complete programming, business analyses or testing activities as required. Enable cross-training for team members to identify secondary responsibilities for critical systems and applications
  • Attend meetings as needed to provide insight/ideas to help meet end-users needs. Facilitate system modifications to fit within existing system architecture, or determine where architectural changes will be required
  • Assign technical resources to conduct analysis of user requests to determine scope, time estimates, and system impact. Review and approve change controls for accuracy and completeness
  • Experience in a non-profit setting and an understanding of fund raising fundamentals preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and efficiently manage multiple projects in varying complexity
  • Strong problem determination and resolution skills
  • Self-motivated, able to work within a project-based environment
  • Detail oriented and organized with an ability to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise confidentiality and good judgment when working with sensitive issues

Required Experience
  • 5+ years experience as an applications developer, applications analyst, or systems engineer in given field. Experience must include previous leadership for technical implementation
  • Practical technical and business domain experience relative to custom and/or vendor applications.
  • Solid background in current technology (i.e., .NET, C#, Apex, SharePoint, Web and Application Servers), development tools and systems design techniques along with a keen understanding of IT infrastructure and operational components
  • Seasoned team management experience
  • Significant understanding of application support approach, methods and processes
  • Significant understanding of operating systems, network, security, and firewalls
  • Significant understanding of load balancing, fault tolerance, and high availability
  • Progressive understanding of project implementations (e.g. management of scope, timeline and budget), SDLC and application development approach
  • Previous experience managing IT Applications functions - software development, implementation and support/maintenance services
  • Experience working with software and hardware vendors
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Visio, and Word
  • Sound knowledge of SalesForce and CVent
  • Experience with single sign‐on solution development / implementation (Microsoft preferred) and/or dashboards / reports development projects preferred
  • Experience working in non-profit organizations is highly preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft SharePoint is highly preferred
  • Experience working with service providers/IT vendors is desirable
  • Must possess knowledge and expertise in the use of Project Management methodologies and tools
  • Proficient in data analysis (Excel)
  • Knowledge of databases and database integration
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field or equivalent work experience preferred
