The mission of The Nature Conservancy is to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. Since our founding in 1951, The Nature Conservancy has protected more than 117 million acres of land and 5,000 miles of rivers worldwide — and we operate more than 100 marine conservation projects globally. The Nature Conservancy is currently seeking three candidates that will work as a team in the new Human Dimensions Program. Across the three hires , we aim to cover the following areas of expertise:

  • Some representation of applied development economics (especially focused on distributional effects, welfare assessment), experimental economics (focused on testing incentives and other policy designs), behavioral economics (focused on individual responses to incentives, including leakage effects, livelihoods choices), and/or ecosystem service valuation (focused on production function approaches and both economic and non-economic endpoints).
  • Applied mathematics, with expertise in practical model development and application, optimization, maximization and tradeoff analyses, and experimental design, in the service of practical conservation, economic or social science questions
  • Policy or project evaluation with a focus on the use of household surveys and other methods to quantify the response of formal and informal governance structures, income, jobs, livelihoods, satisfaction, health, equity and other components of welfare to natural resource management or conservation policies or projects.
The ideal candidates will have aMaster's degree and 4-6 years' experience, PhD and 1-3 years' experience preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
